What a Phenomenal Dinner

Jim and I had a fantastic time at McGuire's celebrating our first anniversary tonight (albeit one day late)! After finding a parking spot, we settled down into our booth with some bread and drinks (a glass of Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay for me and Guinness for him). As I perused the menu, Jim was struck by the fact that all of his favorite beers were displayed on tap just a few feet away -- Guinness, Bass, Smithwick's, Tetley's, and Harp.

We ordered the eggplant appetizer and it was delicious. The breading was light and the sauce had excellent flavor. For my entree, I ordered the ahi tuna, which was sesame encrusted and seared, served with wasabi and a ponzu lime dipping sauce. I was absolutely thrilled when the waiter delivered my meal and it looked like something straight out of a restaurant in Hawaii. It was as if the chef was reading our minds and knew about our special celebration. Plus, the wasabi was the best I've had in my life.
Sorry for the blurry IPhone photo
Jim splurged on the NY strip steak and couldn't stop raving about it. He was originally considering going the seafood route until Katie mentioned she enjoyed the best steak of her life there. We passed on dessert, but we will definitely be making another appearance at McGuire's soon. (You can read the Times Union's review here.) Until next time...

  2. The strip steak was out of this world. I'll have to go back and try the filet or the sea bass!
