Housewarming!

Buster decked out in his jersey searching for food scraps
Jim and I hosted 20 of our nearest and dearest friends for housewarming party/NFL playoff party last Saturday night. We ordered pizza from our favorite neighborhood joint Elias and wings from My Place -- yum! I owe special thanks to Julie, who prepared a fantastic buffalo chicken dip and fudgey chocolate chip cookies, and Erica for her
amazing bean dip!

Below are some pictures from the party.

I Made the Playoffs!

I'm happy to announce that, despite a few harrowing weeks, my fantasy football team -- Trideitzltops -- finished the regular season at 7-7 and made it to the playoffs. Overall, not a bad run for my first year in a fantasy football league.  Thanks ESPN! Unfortunately, I think it will probably be a short playoff run for Trideitzltops because I'm taking on the #1 team One Time Branka (a/k/a Keith), which finished the regular season 12-2 -- eek!

I have to admit I've muttered some of these excuses this season
Jim's team -- Enter the Shaggis -- also made the playoffs, so this afternoon we're heading to the Recovery Sports Grill in Troy to watch all of the 1:00 games on the big screens. I was very worried that Jim and I might be matched up against one another and that would not be a good thing for morale in the Shaughnessy household this weekend :-) Wish me and Jim's beloved Dallas Cowboys luck today!
Buster won't be able to watch the Boys today :-(

    Good Food and Great Friends!

Last night, Jim and I met our friends Keith and Linda at Peddler's for a LONG overdue evening of dinner and drinks.  Jim has been friends with Keith since high school and they've grown closer as the years have gone by.  It always amazes me how Jim has maintained so many of his high school friendships since I am closer with friends I met later in life.  We both went to high school in the Albany area, so it isn't as if one of us had more of an opportunity to stay in touch. Maybe guys don't change as
    much after high school?

The first time I met Linda, Keith's wife, we had an instant connection.  She's so much fun to talk to and we have a lot in common.  Until last night, I never knew that Jim was there not only the night they met, but also the second time when they ran into each other again at a  mutual friend's party. Jim played wingman and it was a success!  As they say, the rest is history. Keith and Linda are definitely one of my favorite couples to hang out with! Random fact: Linda and Katie were also members of the same sorority (different years)!

This Sunday should be pretty quiet in these parts because Jim's beloved Cowboys have a bye week.  This is a good thing for Jim's blood pressure.   All kidding aside, I was never much of a football fan until I met Jim and now it's something we enjoy together.  "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," right?  I even convinced Jim to form a second, less cut-throat Fantasy Football League. Luckily, Julie, Katie, Dan (Katie's bro), and Keith agreed to partake.  As of now, Keith (One Time Branka) and I (Trideitzltops) are the only undefeated teams, but we're playing each other today and tomorrow...such suspense! Although Keith is projected to win, I am still hoping to eek this one out.

Are your closest friends from high school, college, grad school, or beyond?
